There's something about animation that always gets me excited. If it's animated and done really well, it can have my imagination going for days on end. I don't know why but I fondly remember the cartoons of my early youth more fondly than I do any other TV show, save for Star Trek.
As I grew older, those shows stayed with me. I look back at Batman: The Animated Series and think, 'For a kid's show, it was really ahead of it's time.'
I look at Superman and realize that even though it's not held in the same regard, it's a much more faithful adaptation than any of the recent movies we've gotten. (My opinion has shifted slightly on Man of Steel)
Batman Beyond is something that sounds like an awful fanfiction cross over between Batman and Blade Runner but for the most part...it works.
Even though I haven't seen all the episodes and still got more to watch (Keeping my promise to Phil LaMarr), Justice League is probably the closest we're going to get to seeing all our favourite DC superheroes fighting side by side.
And those who had the patience to listen to all episodes of the now defunct Basement Vagrants podcast have heard me give big thumbs up to Young Justice at the end of their first season even though I was in my 20s when it aired.
For what it's worth, I've always felt that cartoons based on the DC comics were always superior, with better animation, better voice-acting and in general, better stories. Granted, I'll admit, it's been a long time since I've watched the X-Men cartoon that aired in the 90's but I've always been more of a DC fan anyway.
So what am I getting at? I've decided to look back at these cartoons, analyze them in a comedic/serious matter, see what works...what doesn't, what could have been improved on and give a rating of the episode.
I'm mostly inspired by the reviews done by guys like Linkara and SF Debris but unlike them, my reviews will be mostly text as even I cannot stand the sound of my own voice sometimes and I don't have any video editing software so if you don't like to read...well I'm surprised you made it this far already.
